Augmented Reality Job Hunting App

What if we could use augmented reality to help hourly workers find jobs?

Executive Summary

A new director came in and spun up a tiger team to create a high-vision innovative product to breathe new life into the company. I assisted the UX Researchers on field observations to do generative research on job hunters, which resulted in identifying features for the MVP.

We created, tested, and launched an augmented reality job hunting app where users could see which brick & mortar places were hiring in real time as well as create their resumes and applying to those jobs. Not only did I help with the research & design, I documented the entire process and created the pitch video below, which was loved by leadership and unlocked funding for the project.

The Problem

Face-to-face impressions beat online applications. Physically hunting for jobs ends up in wasted time for job seekers as they often can’t tell which places are hiring, which ones take walk-in candidates, and which ones have open applications online. We wanted to experiment with augmented reality to help job seekers with this.

But AR? How would we even determine if this would even be a thing job seekers would want? First, we needed to validate the vision.

What I Did

I supported the UX researcher in in-field studies and moderated testing sessions. For the actual application, I helped with wireframing and prototyping. Since this was an experimental vision project, I took the initiative to record the process and edited a case study video. This video was used to pitch the initiative to our executives and successfully secured resources!

An amazing UX team helps

We were challenged to launch a fully validated, robust interactive prototype for the executive pitch in less than a month. Luckily, our team was quickly able to divide and conquer research vs prototyping vs recruiting users vs user flows vs interaction design vs visual design and punctuated our heads down sessions with group reviews. This constant cycle of work/review helped keep the team on the same path.

The outcome

I wanted to capture the process so I filmed a lot of the in-field studies and our ideation sessions. After hours of editing it all together, I produced this video that showcased the UX team and our director ended up using this video in the innovation pitches, which resulted in us securing funds and resources to build this!
